Welcome to the Nanaimo Homeschooling Community!

Nanaimo Community Home Learners (NCHL) is a collection of families in and around Nanaimo who support one another on their homeschooling journeys. NCHL’s current membership list includes over 60 diverse families from Nanaimo, Gabriola Island, Ladysmith, Duncan, Lantzville, Parksville, and Qualicum Beach.

Whether taking on traditional homeschooling or going the radical “unschooling” route—or embracing one of the many other options available to BC families!—NCHL can help your family make the most of your home learning experience. NCHL members are offered the following types of support:

  • Monthly meetings at Oliver Woods Community Centre (first Friday of every month, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm). Kids play in the gym and playground          while parents share ideas and snacks in the meeting room.
  • Lending library and exchange table (where families can donate and/or pick up books, clothes and toys)
  • Google group and newsletter, featuring information about resources and upcoming events, activities, classes, programs and field trips
  • Parents night out (every third Monday of the month) at varying locations
